How to Rent an Aircraft

Renting is how most pilots get started. You borrow someone else’s aircraft for an hourly rate, fly your assignments, and the rental ends when your flight is completed.

Finding Rentable Aircraft

There are two places to find aircraft for rent:

  1. Airport page. Go to Airports, open an airport, and look at the Available Aircraft section. This shows aircraft at that specific airport.
  2. Aircraft marketplace. Go to Aircraft in the sidebar. Use the search and filters to find rentable aircraft across all airports. Toggle the “For Rent” filter to show only rentable aircraft.

Before You Rent

Make sure you have the correct rating for the aircraft type. If you only have Commercial Single, you can only rent single-engine aircraft. Check the aircraft type’s required rating before reserving.

Reserving an Aircraft

  1. Click on the aircraft you want to rent.
  2. A reservation dialog will appear.
  3. Confirm the reservation.

That’s it, the aircraft is now yours to use.

Rental Rules

  • You can only have one active rental at a time.
  • The aircraft can only have one active rental at a time. If someone else is renting it, you’ll need to find another.
  • The aircraft must be airworthy. If it has overdue inspections or critical maintenance, it can’t be rented.
  • Your rental is charged when the flight completes, based on the hourly rate and flight time.

Wet vs. Dry

  • Wet rental: The owner covers fuel costs. The hourly rate is typically higher.
  • Dry rental: You pay for fuel yourself at the pump. The hourly rate is usually lower.

Cancelling a Rental

You can cancel your rental from the Loading Area by clicking the cancel button on your active aircraft. You cannot cancel a rental while a flight is in progress.
